Move over Dermot Kennedy, the search is on for Ireland’s next busking superstar

Tracy Clifford

The likes of Dermot Kennedy and Ed Sheeran made their humble beginnings on the streets of Ireland.

And now the hunt is on to discover the next big superstar and hopefuls filled the streets of Limerick over the weekend to show off their talent.

Songwriters Mel Maryns, Korey Power, Robert Dawson and local artist Daqidexcel were the first acts to take to the custom-built stage.

Dublin pop band Wild Youth appeared for a surprise performance to the delight of those in attendance.

Three Ireland’s City Stages will return to Limerick in January and will tour Ireland over the coming months, providing a platform for buskers and emerging musicians to perform to new audiences and promote their music, taking artists from the smallest stages to the biggest ones.
