Conor McGregor has been named as RTÉ’s Sport Person of the Year 2016.
The Notorious beat off tough competition from twelve other nominees including; Seamus Callanan, Brian Fenton, Carl Frampton and Jamie Heaslip for the coveted title.
Due to his hectic schedule, the Crumlin native was unable to attend last night’s award ceremony, so he pre-reorded his acceptance speech.
“Thanks so much to the fans for voting for me.” Conor said in the video. “I’m extremely grateful and extremely blessed to have the support of my home country.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t make the award ceremony. You know I love to stick on a good suit and roll into these award ceremonies to collect an award.
“It’s been a hell of a year. I look forward to 2017.”
Conor McGregor has had a very exciting year, as he became the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously and announced his long time love Dee Devlin is pregnant with their first child.
We’ve no doubt 2017 will be just as exciting for Conor!
