Huge congratulations are in order for Claire Byrne, as the RTE star tied the knot with her partner Gerry Scollan this afternoon.
The couple, who have two children together, and had their first public date together at the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards back in 2012, got married in a secret ceremony in Dublin. They are set to celebrate their nuptials at a fun-filled after party in a location in West Dublin this evening.
The event was very much kept a secret by the couple, as they never announced the date to the media, and the lack of news on social media today suggests that guests were also asked to remain tight-lipped about the event.
Claire has been very low-key about her impending nuptials, but she did say she wanted a simple day, surrounded by her nearest and dearest. Speaking to the Irish Daily Mail recently, she said: “It will be very simple. We are not eloping, not doing anything big because we have a one and a two year old. “We’re not into anything that fancy, so we’re just going to do something small and enjoy it ourselves.”
Claire started out as a news presenter on TV3, before joining Mark Cagney on the Ireland AM couch. She then moved to Newstalk to present their breakfast show, before joining RTE to become one of its top presenters. Claire was previously married to Richard Johnson, but they went their separate ways in 2006.
We wish Claire and Gerry the best, and hope that, despite the thunderstorms, they have a wonderful day!
