Christy Dignam sat down for what he has called his “last interview”.

He spoke to Ryan Tubridy from his bed at home this week after he entered palliative care due to being diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder cancer.

He spent six months in Beaumont Hospital following his diagnosis before his family shared that he had entered palliative care in January and had returned home.

In the emotional chat, he spoke about his wife Kathryn.

“I have made loads of dodgy decisions in my life you know; loads of mistakes I have made. I don’t regret them because I am happy where I am at now you know… but one decision was I feel I won the Lotto when I kind of met Kathryn, you know,” he told Ryan.

Christy revealed that he had flatlined while in hospital last year before he went on to say that a nurse was unable to reassure him when he asked if he was going to die.

Reflecting on his life, Christy admitted: “Just fear, nobody wants to die. When I first got diagnosed, I remember praying I was like ‘please, just give me 10 more years.’

“And that 10 years are up now and you’re kind of saying, ‘I know I only asked for 10 but you couldn’t throw another 10 in there could, yeah?”
