Charlie Bird sadly passed away earlier this year from Motor Neuron Disease.
He was first diagnosed with the disease in 2021 and had been spending the last years of his life raising awareness about the illness.
Now his wife, Claire Mould has shared the sweet gift he gave her before his passing.
She reminisced about their life together, especially the last few years following his diagnosis.
Speaking on the Miriam O’Callaghan Show on RTÉ Radio One, she explained the sweet gift he had made for her the Christmas following his MND diagnosis.
“Charlie had this made for me three years ago, he was always Mr Organised,” she said before explaining that he had a locket made for her.
“He was always a real organiser. This locket is for Charlie and his name is on it. I have Charlie around my neck every day, it’s for his ashes.”
She admitted that at first, it was a tad morbid.

“He gave me this the first Christmas [following the diagnosis] and he said, ‘Isn’t that lovely?’ And I went, “Not now it’s not lovely, but maybe in a few years’ time Bird, that’ll be lovely”.
“He thought I’d wear this for three years, but no, I’m wearing it now. It’s a great comfort, but not three years ago!”
She added that while she didn’t wear it while he was alive, she adores the gift now.
“I’m actually delighted with it, I love it. It’s beautiful to look at.”
She went on to speak about her grief after the loss of her husband.
“Sometimes I have no control. I’ll just sit there and be a certain song, and I’ll just have a meltdown about it, you know? You can’t control grief. It just hits you in waves.”
She went on to say that she doesn’t like to think of him when he was sick, instead she has a lovely picture of him at home that she looks at instead.
