Downton Abbey’s second feature film adaptation, Downton Abbey: A New Era, just premiered last month. But it seems the cast are already looking to the future as Allen Leech, who plays Tom Branson, has shared his hopes for a third film.
The Dublin man, along with his co-star Laura Carmichael who plays lady Edith, were chatting with Screen Rant and opened up about a Downton Abbey number three.
When asked if they would return, Allen confirmed he is on board, while Laura said; “I love that we’re talking about it. Like, let’s just make another movie, yeah.”

The pair also shared some of their ideas for a third installment.
With Allen believing Downton’s younger generation, like his on screen daughter Sybil and Lady Edith’s daughter Marigold, should play a bigger part in the future of the franchise.
Saying; “As you said, it’s a new era. And it’s their era, really.”
“You’re right, they should come to the fore. And possibly come to America, visit Cora’s family.” While Laura agreed with him.

And it seems the pair are already pitching their ideas to the creators.
As Laura said; “That’s our plan. That’s our plot for the next one,” while Allen confessed; “We’ve been dropping that into conversations.”
Of course, their ideas didn’t stop there as the 41-year-old revealed just how much he wants Tom to return to New York.
Explaining; “I love the idea of them coming to New York.”
“I’d love to see what happens, to see that world at the start of the Wall Street crash of ’29. And maybe they get stuck there at that time.”
The pair certainly know what their hoping for with Laura even revealing how they email the show’s creator Julian Fellowes their ideas!
