Aidan Gillen has opened up about the eventful Game of Thrones season finale!

This story contains spoilers so look away now if you’re a GoT fanatic who has yet to see the final episode.

Aidan’s character Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelis saw his end in a graphic death in which Arya slit his throat at the end of the seventh series.

The Irish actor, who has appeared on the show since day one, admitted he’s disappointed to be finished with the show.

Aidan explained that “the infamous call” was how he found out the was being axed.

“It’s so obvious what it is. Showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff never ring you up — maybe once in six years,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

“I learned about that call from Michael McElhatton [Roose Bolton] when he told me about his call and he talked about how it made him feel.

“And I thought if I get that call — or rather when, as this has got to happen sooner or later to a character like Littlefinger — I wondered how it would make me feel.

“Because the show is such a part of your life for so many years, you start to think, ‘What will your life will be like outside of it?’ It’s a potent loss.”

He added that the hugely popular show has been a massive part of his life since it began.

“You’re left a little bereft — for your character and for your experience.

“It also immediately makes you quantify the hugeness of what that experience has been over the last seven years, which has been massive.”

He added: “I don’t necessarily mean that I was sad, but it’s an emotional moment for the character so I felt what he was feeling.”
