Aengus Mac Grianna has revealed that he is leaving RTE.
The newsreader has worked with the company for over 30 years and revealed he’s taken a voluntary redundancy deal.
The 53-year-old also explained that his decision to leave came before the recent shake-up at RTE News.
“I told management over six months ago of my decision so it was decided long before any of the changes.
“I’ve had 30 wonderful years at RTE but it is time for a change,” He told the Sunday Independent.
Aengus also revealed his goal for the future and says he is even considering going back into education.
“My dream is to keep learning and to explore and discover new things.
“I am open to the idea of going back to university and I will keep all my options open – from architecture to archaeology.”
Though the journalist worked on RTE for over three decades, one of his most famous moments is a blooper that went viral.
Following a commercial break, he was applying powder to his face unaware that the show was on air again.
There has been a number of changes in RTE as of late, with Brian Dobson leaving the news and Sharon Ni Bheolain moving from the Six:One to the nine o’clock show.
Caitriona Perry and Keelin Shanley have since been announced as replacement for the flagship show.
