“I was quite content in my own little ways and then, boom, I meet this fabulous fella!”
So said Ruth Scott to VIP exactly a year ago, when she posed with her then boyfriend Rob Morgan, son of the late, great Father Ted himself, Dermot Morgan. RTE DJ Ruth had been single for 12 years, but one day accountant Rob organised a TedFEst Table Quiz which Ruth attended (we’re not making this up!) and the rest, as they say, is history.
While Ruth is a well known figure in Irish media, as presenter of Weekenders with Ruth and Paddy, Rob keeps a much lower profile, even though he is one of three sons of Ireland’s best-loved comedian, Dermot Morgan. Talking to VIP about his Dad, Rob recalls that “You could come home after school and he would be sitting there working on his huge old typewriter, firing out a million ideas, and next thing you know he’d have picked up a guitar and wold be strumming away on a song he was developing. It was never dull!”
When we spoke to them a year ago, the couple confessed that they had no wedding plans, with Rob even joking “I would say quite openly that I can be remarkably tight when it comes to money. Why would I spend 20 grand or so on one day? How many great holidays can you get for that money?”The lovebirds have gone back on their word, it seems, as Rob got down on one knee on New Year’s Eve to propose to a clearly delighted Ruth.
The lady herself, by the way, also told VIP a year ago “VIP will be the first to hear if there are wedding bells.”
Well, she didn’t. Instead, the big liar revealed it on Twitter this evening!!
