Gordan D’Arcy paid an emotional tribute to his heavily-pregnant wife Aoife Cogan at The Leinster Ball over the weekend.
Although he’s still available for the World Cup, the beloved rugby player is following in BOD’s footsteps and hanging up his blue jersey, and was honoured at the snazzy event for his special contribution to Leinster rugby.
“To my wife Aoife, thank you. You’re an amazing woman, you’re giving me the best gift that anyone could ever give,” Gordon announced in his acceptance speech, whilst tearing up, to the 500 plus guests in attendance.
Aoife, who’s pregnant with their first child, is due to give birth at some stage in the next week.
The former Miss Ireland looked absolutely glowing on the arm of her husband, and was wearing a striking grey sequined throw slung over a black dress.
BOD himself gave a speech in Gordan’s honour and again paid tribute to the lovely Aoife.
“His greatest achievement of all is managing to bag his gorgeous wife”, he said.
The Doubletree by Hilton hosted the event and welcomed a range of players and their gorgeous other halves.
Sean O’Brien and his student girlfriend Denise Smyth made their first public appearance since getting back together. The pair looked absolutely smitten as they posed outside for the waiting photographers.
The Kearney brothers chose to bring only each other for company and there was no sign of Rob’s usual companion, his girlfriend Jessica Reddan.
By all accounts the night was an incredible success and it was Sean Cronin who was awarded Leinster Rugby Players’ Player Of The Year.
