Off to Ladies Day?! Here’s how to nail style at the races….

Irish milliner Jennifer Wrynne wowed at Cheltenham earlier this year... we nabbed her to share her top tips on how to impress at Ladies Day at the races.

Heading to the Galway Races next week and wanna make an impression? We chatted to Irish Irish milliner Jennifer Wrynne, who stole the show at this year’s Cheltenham festival and was crowned the style champ on Ladies Day.

The 25-year-old – who has a pretty impressive celeb fan base – wowed in an emerald A-line dress, metallic court shoes and a faux fur stole, teamed with a fuschia pink and green hat of her own design and a burgundy Louis Vuitton clutch bag.

VIP decided to ask her advice for any of you ladies who aren’t sure how to dress for their special day out…

Race Day
How amazing is this Ladies Day winning look by Jennifer Wrynne!?

Be considerate about your outfit.

Jennifer says that when choosing an outfit for Ladies Day at the races, there are a few things she takes into consideration.

“For me, I allow my body shape and colouring dictate my outfit rather than the latest fashion trends,” she says. “I tend to go for strong vibrant colours as I think they work well with my skin tone.”

She also uses the weather as a factor: “As we all know, the Irish weather is very unpredictable. In Winter/early Spring, I usually wear a coat or shrug and tights. Not forgetting an umbrella!”

Colour it up!

The Grafton Academy graduate suggests embracing colour as much as possible, particularly the beautiful pastel pinks, mints and light golden tones in the shops at the minute.
“They are great colours on Irish ladies, no matter what colour hair or skin you have,” she says.

Hat’s off

In terms of hats, Jennifer is an expert at giving tips as designing them is how she makes her living.

“Hats are a great way to add that extra ‘wow’ factor as they completely finish an outfit,” she enthuses.

She says when choosing a hat, it is important that the design complements both you and your outfit. For example, if you are wearing a multicoloured dress, it is best to keep your hat a little more simplistic – perhaps only choosing one colour from your dress. But, if your dress is very simplistic, you can go a little crazier with the hat!

Jennifer says that when it comes to hats, size matters, and a petite lady should not wear a very large hat as it can reduce her height and hide her face. Likewise, a larger lady can look better with a bigger hat as it can give more structure to the overall look.

She adds: “When choosing which side of your head to wear a hat, I usually recommend wearing the hat on the side of the head where your hair parts.”

Accessorize & glam up!

Jennifer recommends accessorizing, as it brings even more personality to your outfit, and says she usually starts with her hat and works her shoes and bag after that.

To get her looking nice & bronzed, she recommends applying ‘Wow Brown’ fake tan (the Ready To Glo express self tan costs €19.95) the night before, saying it’s easy to apply and smells lovely.

For her hair, Jennifer says she would tend to opt for an up-do, as otherwise the wind and rain can be a massive annoyance. “Once its put up and lots of hair spray is applied, it stays in place!” she says.
