The annual Rose of Tralee festival took place in Co. Kerry last night, with viewers across the county tuning in to see hopefuls from their own counties and further afield.
The elusive crown eventually went to the Offaly Rose, Jennifer Byrne, but it was a comment made by the Western Canadian Rose Sinead Ryan that really got people’s attention.
One of the roses seems to think that Ireland is in the UK #Roseoftralee pic.twitter.com/fdFGuwkzLv

When being interviewed on stage by host Daithi O’Se, Sinead told the audience in Tralee that she had 23 cousins in the UK, three in England and 20 in Ireland. Viewers were left frustrated with the mishap and many took to twitter to voice their opinions.
Omg the Canadian Rose just claimed all 23 of her cousins are in the U.K., 20 in Ireland and 3 in England. She’s not winning #RoseOfTralee

I don’t watch the ROT but love reactions to it. Shout-out to the Canadian Rose who didn’t know the difference between the UK and Ireland.

Will ye lay off on the Canadian Rose thinking we’re in the UK. So many of us have to go there for healthcare it’s an easy mistake to make

Michael Collins didn’t die so a woman living in “Western Canada” could imply Ireland was in the UK on his anniversary tbf #RoseOfTralee
