Thalia Heffernan has opened up about mental health and dealing with feeling down.

The model and reality star got honest about why it’s okay to feel sad and that is it an inevitable part of life.

Taking to Instagram, the star shared a photo with a quote saying: ‘you are not a drop in the ocean you are the entire ocean in a drop.”

Elaborating on the quote she said: “The heart and brain are two organs working symbiotically in your system. And yet sometimes, without rhyme or reason, and without ceasing their function of beating and thinking amongst other things, they can change.”

The 24-year-old added that although she doesn’t usually get too personal online, she felt it was important to be honest about her emotions.

“I rarely use this platform to show much else than work and family, but I feel a responsibility to everyone to say that sometimes I feel sad. The past few days, my brain and heart seem to have lapsed somewhat and I’ve conjured up what I feel to be an appropriate image to best express what I mean.

“Imagine your brain were an ocean, somedays a storm threatens and can cascade down and escape through your eyes and make you feel hopeless. Other days, the waves are calm, a mere gentle breeze or maybe nothing at all. But regardless of the conditions, we have the ability to feel it. And that’s just it. Feelings come and go, just like the weather, and despite the strength of the waves or the storm the calm will come.

“With so many suicides being reported recently, and millions more happening all over the world I feel it’s important that I show that ‘weakness’ in a moment of turbulence, regardless of why it happens, is in fact strength. Orographic rainfall, or relief rainfall, occurs when a cloud must cool, condense and rain in order to rise over heightened terrain. Sometimes in order to rise and succeed we need to let go, too.

She finished by saying: “I guess I just want to say that, the next time you may feel sad or lonely or hopeless, know that you are not alone.  Everybody feels, some more deeply than others, and I think that that’s a pretty special trait to possess. X”

Thalia was praised in the comments by followers and fans.

“Very relatable,” one said, while another added: “thank you for this”.
