Just days after gushing about his job in TV3, Alan Cantwell has hung up his boots and decided to go into a career in politics.
The broadcaster has left his role as newsreader, which he recently returned to after a three year break, and has become an advisor for minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor.
He took to Twitter to break the news, saying, “Have resigned my position at TV3. Appointed to position at Dept. Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation.”
This comes directly after Alan exclusively opened up to VIP Magazine about his job in the Ballymount studios.
“I’d been away out of it for so long, but now it feels like I’d never been away.
“I think the next six months will be interesting for me, to see what kind of opportunities arise. Thanks to the new owners of TV3 [Virgin Media], there will be a lot of changes in terms of programming and the direction of the station.
“I’ll be in the mix in some shape or form,” he said.
Hmm, we wonder if this will just be another hiatus, or has he left for good…
