What is Cowboy Core? How to rock the trend this Spring

With Shania Twain coming to Ireland this year, Beyoncé teasing us with a country album and Kim Kardashian wearing a cowboy hat to the Super Bowl over the weekend, it’s no surprise that Cowboy Core is trending.

Cowboy core consists of lots of denim, cowboy hats, bootcut pants, cowboy boots and fringe everything, but the trend is not just about western fashion. It’s about country music, having fun and embracing your inner farmer’s daughter.

Cowboy boots and hats have been trending for the last few years with all our favourite It gals – in particular Kendall Jenner sporting the look. The trend is set to only get bigger this spring with cowboy core.

Here’s how to participate in the trend with some of our favourite high street picks!

Cowboy Boots

Investing in a pair of cowboy boots is the best way to hop on this trend. You will wear them to every concert and festival this Spring/Summer. They go with everything and opting for a red version will allow you to add a pop of colour to your outfit, keeping on trend.

Cowboy boots can be paired with a sundress, bootcut jeans or a midi dress. It’s a fun trend so there are no limits.

Diamonte Fringe Jackets

Is there anything more annoying than having to put a jacket on over your outfit? Especially in the Irish weather, it’s rare you could go on a night out without one, but fringe jackets are a super cool and fun look for any night out – especially if some sparkle is added. Take some inspo from Queen B and go for a diamonte fringe jacket.

ASOS – €65

Nasty Gal – €78.40

Miss Selfridge – €53

Double Denim

Denim is the backbone of cowboy core. Everyone should have good denim pieces in their wardrobe and double denim has been making a comeback with cowboy core. Bootcut or straight-leg jeans are the way to go with this trend and denim shirts are always good to have, even if you’re just throwing them over an outfit.

Boohoo – €18

Levi’s – €85
Salsa Jeans – €109

Cowboy Hats

Cowboy hats are arguably the best part of Western fashion. The style has been building momentum over the past few seasons. From classic colours to embellished styles, they add so much fun to any outfit and are another piece to keep in mind for concerts and festivals.

Boohoo – €27
Nasty Gal – €41.30

Boot-Cut Jeans

I think we can all agree that boot-cut jeans are extremely flattering. They are not ultra skinny, but they still give you shape and plus, they allow you to show off those cowboy boots! Boot-cut jeans flare out slightly at the ankle giving you the same effect as flares but without looking like you stepped right out of the 70’s.

Levi’s – €130

Zara – €29.95

Wrangler’s – €54.98

Suede Accessories

From bags to boots, suede is a great way to add a different texture to your look. If leather cowboy boots aren’t your cup of tea suede in a neutral tone is always a good look.

Suede may have been a material that you avoided due to how delicate it is. But with the Ugg trend dominating the winter seasons the last couple of years, people aren’t so opposed to it anymore. Seude handbags have been trending since last winter and it’s looking like they are sticking around for 2024.

Guess – €130

NA-KD – €54.95
