It’s been a while since we’ve seen Saoirse Ronan on the big screen.

And she is back with a bang!

Her new film, The Outrun, is due to hit cinemas later this year.

And now we have a first look at the upcoming flick, with its first trailer.

The film is based on a best-selling memoir of the same name by Amy Liptrot.

So what can we expect?

Well, the synopsis of the film reads: “After a decade away in London, 29-year-old Rona (Saoirse Ronan) returns home to the Orkney Islands.

“Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery.

“Slowly the beauty and lore of the land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength in herself among the heavy gales and the bracingly cold sea.”

The Outrun debuted to critical acclaim at Sundance and the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year and will have its UK premiere as the Opening Night film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.

The film will hit Irish cinemas on Friday 27th September.

Billed as “a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival, and the power of nature to restore life and renew hope” the film also stars the likes of Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Stephen Dillane (Alex Rider), and Saskia Reeves (Slow Horses).

Not only is Saoirse starring in The Outrun but she is also among the film’s producers.

Previously speaking about the project in a statement Saoirse said: “I have been waiting to play a part like this.

“The messiness, hopefulness, dreaminess, authenticity and humour we want to achieve – I’ve been scared of it, but with Nora, I feel ready.”

We can’t wait to see this one hit the big screen!
