Twitter reacts to new season of RTE’s Reeling in the Years

Last night saw RTE release a brand new season of everyone’s favourite show, Reeling in the Years. It’s a sure sign you’re getting older when you start to recognise and remember clips played on the show, which meant yesterday’s episode got a strong reaction from viewers.

The opening clip of this first episode is one everyone remembers, the iconic ‘man slipping on the ice’ outside of RTE. It created a big reaction online with most feeling shocked that it happened 11 years ago!

This new season will cover the years from 2010 to 2019. John O’Regan, producer on the show has revealed what topics can be expected from the new episodes.

Get ready to feel old. The iPad was first released, the Rubberbandits dropped ‘Horse Outside’, Google’s ‘Street View’ launched here in Ireland, ‘Love/Hate’ started on RTE and the infamous Icelandic ash cloud stopped air travel in it’s tracks.

Of course the show also touches on some more serious topics such as the Syrian Civil War and sex offender Jimmy Saville.

Speaking about this John said; “Reeling in the Years deals with serious topics and it is not targeting a young audience but you have to be aware that sometimes there will be younger viewers watching. Maybe the better point is it is sometimes how you treat a story.”

So far, the new season is already a hit with viewers with many  chatting about it on social media. Amy Huberman, who appears in the first episode wrote to Instagram; “Just about recovered from being on Reeling in the Years. But I don’t think I will ever recover from the fact it’s been 11 years since that fella slipped on the ice.”
