Martin King’s documentary, ‘We Need To Talk About Dementia’ aired yesterday evening and has had an overwhelmingly positive reaction since.
The Virgin Media doc is part of a fundraiser the network have been running, with a number of documentaries in aid of charities that help those with the disease and loved ones supporting them too.
Presenter, Martin King wanted to make the doc after his own family’s devastating experience with this disease, as his mother Christina was diagnosed with dementia in later life.
In particular Martin shared how difficult it was when his father passed away a month prior to his mother in 2019, and he admitted they struggled to share the news with her as she’d have to relive the grief and trauma on a daily or weekly basis. But before long, she put two and two together.
The presenter admits revisiting these memories in the documentary was incredibly tough – but necessary, as he hopes to draw awareness.
The show aired yesterday evening and has been met with lots of positive feedback by viewers at home.
Fair play to Martin King. Dementia is a difficult journey for both the person and their family. For me it’s all about making the memories.
