Sex in the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s extremely elaborate headpiece at last night’s Met Gala has caused an Internet storm – and it was designed by none other than Irish milliner Philip Treacy.
The 50-year-old actress, renowned for her experimentation with fashion like her famous tv character Carrie Bradshaw, chose the Galway designer’s flame-inspired headwear to accompany her H&M Conscious Collection dress at the star-studded event.
Sharing a photo of her posing in her stand-out outfit online SJP wrote: “Dress designed by me in collaboration with @hm. Headpiece by @philiptreacy. Custom @sjpcollection shoes.”
Unsurprisingly, the headpiece has become an overnight social media sensation, with countless memes posted comparing the actress to various flame-based cartoon characters and even the fire emoji.
SJP has previously admitted to being a big fan of the celebrity-favourite milliner, who has designed hats for the Royal Family as well as countless A-listers, and he recently spoke of their “special” relationship.
“I love her because she’s a really, really nice person. She’s a very gracious person,” he said. “She occupies a very unusual space in people’s imaginations.”
“She made famous a character who loves fashion, so as a result she can get away with things that most people can’t.”
The actress stood out before in Philip Treacy designs, most notably for a “Punk Couture hat” at the 2013 MET Gala and a “satellite-style” design at the Crown Oaks Club Ladies Luncheon in 2011.
