The latest batch of radio listenership figures have just been released, and RTE have certainly more to cheer about than their direct rivals Today FM!
The big winners are Ryan Tubridy, whose Radio 1 show has gained 35,000 listeners in 12 months, leaving him at 322,000 in the new JNLR figures, released this afternoon. Ray D’Arcy has every reason to be happy as well, adding 34,000 listeners to leave him with 217,000.
The two biggest shows on Irish radio continue to be RTE1’s Morning Ireland, with 460,000, and LIveline with Joe Duffy, which at 391,000 listeners has seen an increase of 24,000 since this time last year.
It’s not all positive news, however, as Nicky Byrne’s 2FM show has slipped slightly, with its figure of 143,000 down 7000 from a year ago, and Jennifer Maguire’s Breakfast Republic morning show also losing some fans.
Pat Kenny has lost another 16,000 listeners year on year, meaning his overall figure of 126,000 is now a massive 200,000 less than his direct rival Sean O’Rourke, over at RTE1, who once again posted impressive numbers with 326,000 listeners each morning.
The man who replaced Ray D’Arcy at Today FM, Anton Savage, is likewise not popping the champagne corks this evening, as he has lost a whopping 37,000 listeners in the past year, leaving him with just 175,000. All is not glum for the independent station, however, as Dermot & Dave, The Last Word with Matt Cooper and Ian Dempsey’s breakfast show all held steady to record impressive figures.
