Top telly picks this Christmas

tv

When you’re all partied out and full of food, there’s nothing better than taking to the couch and relaxing in front of the tv.

Over the Christmas, there’s plenty on the telly to keep the whole family entertained – from your children to your grandparents!

24th – Christmas Eve

Father Ted Christmas Special, RTE2, 8.05pm
No Christmas telly season would be complete without a catchup with Fr Ted, Mrs Doyle and Dougle on Craggy Island, but this is the one where the priests get lost in the lingerie section of a department store. How can they escape without causing a scandal? Hilarious.

Bridget & Eamon: The Musical Society – RTE2, 9.10pm.
With their tv broken and house surrounded, Bridget, Eamon and their neighbours must act out popular tv shows to keep the IRA entertained and stay alive. They might just get away with it as long as Jimmy doesn’t ask them to perform Dirty Dancing…

Podge and Rodge, RTE2, 9.45pm
With tongues on the pair of them that would clip a hedge, we wonder if anyone will be brave enough to pop into Ballydung to visit Ireland’s vilest bachelors over Christmas? First Dates’ Mateo Saina is brave enough apparently. Maybe Podge and Rodge will be nicer, given the infectious Christmas cheer.

25th – Christmas Day

Angela’s Christmas – RTE One, 6.20pm
Ruth Negga’s voice features in this heart-warming Irish animation where a trip to church with her family on Christmas Eve gives young Angela a big idea. This is a story about the power of family and the power of one child’s love. A delightful tale for all the family.

The Great Christmas Bake Off – Channel 4, 8pm
Sandi, Noel, Paul and Prue are back for their traditional Christmas gettogether, although we can’t help but wonder if they are filmed in the summer while the tent was already set up…Anyhoo, it’s Liam and Flo from 2017 and Jane and Andrew from 2016, back to do battle.

26th – Stephens’ Day

The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, Channel 4, 9pm
Acerbic host Jimmy Carr is joined by Jon Snow, Charles Dance and a whole host of celebrity question-setters to recall the year’s biggest events. Who stole the show at the Royal wedding? Our money is on the American preacher, Michael Curry. This question and many more will be answered in true comedic style – and we can’t wait to see!
