The Dublin-born artist described him as “someone who gave me confidence and trusted me”.

O’Donoghue and Sheehan first struck fame with the band My Town before forming the Irish Rock band, The Script in 2001. The band reached global fame with hits including Breakeven, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, and Hall Of Fame.

He went on to speak a lot about his struggles in school, admitting: “I failed music, and it was shocking for me because I went to the school for that”.

O’Donoghue talked about his journey with alcohol throughout the years saying how he was “very experimentative as a kid,” he explained: “I’ve done drugs in the past…I’m always dabbling in this that and the other but never to the extent where it has got out of hand, and I’ve had to go anywhere.”

The Dublin man recalls how returning home to Dublin for Christmas was particularly triggering.

He explained how he had told himself that he wanted to stay sober for the festive period but “by the time I got off the plane I was smashed”.

The lead singer of the band said that he spent “pretty much spent Christmas p***ed” but cut his trip to Dublin short to focus on himself and his health.

“On the 27th I said if I stay in Dublin much longer this is just so bad for me.

“I gave up everything that day and for the first time was legitimately able to say there is another guy in here who is hijacking me.”

The Script are due to release their new album Satellites on August 16th and begin their Satellites World Tour on August 9th.
