Tesco have issued an urgent recall on one of their cleaning products due to a chemical fault. The store’s ‘Bausch + Lomb’s EasySept HYDRO+® 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution’ is used for cleaning contact lenses.
According to Trading Standards UK the product has been recalled because it poses a health risk to users, with symptoms including irritation and reddening of the eye.
Tesco.ie released a statement in relation to the recall, saying that the product “represents low risk to the user and is unlikely to cause serious health consequences.” However, Bausch + Lomb have voluntarily recalled the product “out of an abundance of caution.”
“Over the course of the recommended 35 uses of the lens case, testing showed occasional occurrences where the residual peroxide remaining in the lens case after neutralization was above product specification,” it said.
Any customer who has purchased the product can return it to any Tesco branch for a full refund.
