Staycationing this summer? 4 of the best coffee spots in Limerick to try

“Will we go for a coffee?” The words we’re almost (we stress almost) sick of hearing at this point, but as we’re all well aware the only thing to do during lockdown was to get a take away coffee and walk the legs off ourselves.

So, even though restrictions have lifted and we can do so much more, now going for coffee feels less like an obligation and more like something we actually want to do again!

As we prepare for another summer of staycations, here at VIP we want to bring you some of the best spots to stop in along the way. Today we’re looking at four of the best independent cafes in Limerick.

MMCookies Café – Upper Thomas Street

This is a beautiful, and incredibly ‘Instagrammable’ café in Limerick city. Owned by a couple, half of whom runs day to day operations and the other who makes all the cakes and treats, fresh every morning.

It’s the perfect spot to get comfy with a book or a magazine, grab a coffee, and choose a slice of cake from the display case. There are a few regular appearances but there’s always something new to try!

Fika – Catherine Street

After bravely opening in the middle of the pandemic, Fika has been serving up delicious takeaway coffee for the last few months and has quickly become a popular spot amongst Limerick locals.

The staff are also super nice and accommodating, making sure to recommend some of their favourites if you (like us) didn’t quite know what to choose! There’s lots of tea and coffee merchandise on display for purchase including everything from keep cups and loose leaf tea, to gadgets for different ways to make coffee, anything to suit your inner barista.

Rift Coffee – Upper Mallow Street

Formerly the home of fellow independent company Canteen, Rift has become a fast favourite to the people of Limerick. With it’s gorgeous minimal interiors and great coffee it makes it easy to avoid any other local chains.

It’s also said to be a firm favourite of a local Limerick musician…

Café Rose – Roches Street

This is one of those gorgeous, cosy spots that you would really miss sitting in if you had a free morning. We love a café you can really chill out in, so make sure to add this to your list next time you’re in Limerick.

Thankfully, now that restrictions are slowly easing, we’ll soon be back in for perfectly made porridge, eggs benedict and of course, coffee!
