Sinead O’Connor’s body has been released to her family following an autopsy to establish her cause of death.
The iconic singer passed away sadly on July 26th. She was found unresponsive in her home in southeast London.
At the time, it was believed her death was not being treated as suspicious.
Sinead’s body was taken for an autopsy to “secure a medical cause of death”. However, it was then reported that the post-mortem report may not be received for “some weeks”.
Per the Irish Mirror, the London Inner South Coroner’s Court confirmed that they would make a decision as to whether they will open an inquest after the results of the autopsy are known.
Her family confirmed that she had sadly passed away last week at the age of 56.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” they confirmed.
Her death came just 18 months after the tragic death of her 17-year-old son, Shane.
Sinead confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, writing at the time: “Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.”
Rest in peace, Sinead.
