Sinéad is one of 10 nominees who are up for the first time, these include Mariah Carey, Cher, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Ozzy Osbourne and Sade.

“The life and art of this Irish singer-songwriter and activist left an indelible mark on the soul of popular music,” they said as they announced Sinéád’s nomination.

To be eligible for a nomination the artist must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

There’s no set number of inductees each year, but it is usually somewhere between four and eight new members who are selected.
