Brooklyn actress Saoirse Ronan has revealed that she was given sex eduction classes at quite an early age – and not from her parents, but on a movie set!
The 21-year-old has divulged details about when she filmed I Could Never Be Your Woman at the age of 12, when she played a character who was sex-savvy.
“It could not have been more different than me,” she said. “First of all, she had grown up in L.A. I’m proud to say that I have never used fake tan and I am very pale. And second, this character, at 12, knew what a blow job was,” she told W Magazine.
“They had to take me aside and say, ‘We’ll explain blow jobs to you later, but, for now, just say the words like they are something sexy,” she said.
Her latest role, as immigrant Eilis Lacey in Brooklyn (which VIP has tickets to giveaway for a special screening on Friday!) was much easier to relate to than former film roles, she added. Like Eilis, she recently moved from home to move to London, which left her feeling a range of emotions.
“It felt like I had to do it; it was my life in novel form, ” she commented. “I understood the sadness and excitement of being on your own in a new place”.
Saoirse will be flying into Dublin soon for the movie’s premiere, as well as Enniscorthy, the town in Co. Wexford in which the story is based, and where many scenes were filmed.
