Samantha Mumba has been in the music industry since she was just 15-years-old, so she knows her stuff when it comes to the harsh side of the biz.
The Body to Body singer has some wise advice for Irish X-Factor contestants, saying that they should be prepared for what’s in store for them.
Speaking to The Herald, she said, “I think the main thing is to have a good lawyer. Make sure it’s a good contract, and good for them.
“I think you have to take opportunities like that and make the best of them when they arise.”
Samantha herself experienced difficulty after her first album release, when several music labels merged under Sony Music Entertainment in 2003.
“I was 15 when I got my contract and in hindsight, it’s very young.
“That was my passion at the time and I don’t think I could have been told otherwise to be honest,” she said.
Despite the setbacks, the Dublin native is still working in the entertainment industry, and has some tv work on the cards here in Ireland.
“I’ve a couple of things lined up, a few little bits that we’re just working out all the kinks on at the moment so it will be nice to combine the two, especially because I’ve got no support family-wise over there. So it’s great.
“There’s a million people here wanting to babysit and take her so it makes it a lot easier. It’s TV work, a couple of different things so it will be nice,” she said.
