Ryan Tubridy has definitely left behind the scandal that hounded him when he left RTÉ in 2023.
He relocated to London at the start of this year and began his new job at Virgin Radio which is also aired here in Ireland on Q102.
He has now opened up about facing the Oireachtas hearings over the summer of 2023 due to his payments.
Speaking to Dermot Whelan on his podcast, The Mind Full, Ryan shared how his family supported him during that time. Although he had to juggle his mother’s illness at the time.
“They [family] were the pillars, and my partner was a pillar, the girls were a pillar and if there was a temple of doom they were the pillars that kept the roof on we got through it, my mum was pretty good, she was unwell at the time so that was pretty tricky,” he confessed.
“She was in a hospital and I was going in and out of hospital during Oireachtas hearings. She said, ‘You wouldn’t get the paper for me’. I said of course and I went down and I looked at the papers…and I went s**t!!! And I went back up and I went funny they are all sold out! That was tricky.”
Speaking about his relocation, he admitted it was another difficult time for him.

“Looking round London didn’t feel great, it felt wet and grey and dark, it was a new city and I missed everybody. And then as the days went on, it was quite interesting: to use the metaphor of light and dark, it was December though I started the job in January 2nd on Virgin radio, which is broadcast on Q102 here in Ireland, and as the days got brighter, coming into February, March and family were coming over to visit suddenly they didn’t feel so far away,” he confessed.
“I started to really like the people I was working with, they were real warm and the listeners started coming on board, our figures went up, I suddenly went this is kinda interesting….. I became friends with some people I wasn’t expecting to be friendly with….. and the sun came out again…”
