Ruth Negga has revealed she’s “truly humbled” after receiving an Oscar nomination yesterday.

The Irish starlet received the nod for her work in Loving, and is over the moon that her acting has been noticed by the Academy.

The Limerick native will be up against Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Isabelle Huppert and Natalie Portman as they compete for the award of Best Actress.

“I am truly humbled by the news and I thank the Academy for this recognition, which I share with my co-collaborators Jeff Nicols and Joel Egerton,” Ruth said in a statement released to The Mary Sue.

“It has been such an honour to have been given the opportunity to tell the incredible story of Richard and Mildred Loving, who serve as an inspiration that ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

“The Loving fought quietly yet tirelessly, and changed the course of American legal history.

“To be among such extraordinary women – my fellow nominees, my peers with films this year, and the legendary performers whose work of years past has long inspired me – this means a great deal to me.”

We wish Ruth the best of luck during the awards, which take place on February 26th.
