RTÉ have revealed some exciting news today, that a new show is on it’s way to fill the Saturday night slot! The Heart of Saturday Night will be six weeks of music hosted by Loah and Una Healy.
Kicking off on Saturday the 24th of July, the show will see some of Ireland’s best and most loved performers joining the hosts every Saturday evening from The Round Room at the Mansion House.
Since the pandemic began, we have been starved of live music and gigs, something that has been difficult for both artists and audiences! With live music still pretty much on hold for the next while, this show aims to fill that void at the weekend by bringing together some of the best Ireland has to offer.
So who can we expect to see on the show? So far Irish Women in Harmony, Mick Flannery, The Saw Doctors, Soda Blonde, Niamh Regan and Rhiannon Giddens have been announced but they are expecting many more to join this line-up. Both Loah and Una will both be performing duets with some of the guests across the series.
The program is set to appeal to a wide audience, from all different ages as well as musical tastes with genres like pop, folk, rock, classical and traditional to be included.
As well a shining a light on new and upcoming artists, each episode will also pay tribute to a national treasure who is no longer with us with tributes including performances in honour of Phil Lynott, Dolores O’Riordan, Shay Healy, Ronnie Drew and John Prine.
Speaking about the show The Saturdays star, Una Healy said; “I was so excited to be asked to co-host The Heart of Saturday Night and getting to do it alongside the incredibly talented Loah was a joy. We had such a brilliant time filming and it’s an experience I’ll never forget. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
Adding to this, Loah said; “The Heart of Saturday Night is a musical dream come true. Co-presenting with Una has been a great pleasure and it’s been wonderful to hear and chat to all the incredible musicians throughout the series. I’m honoured to be part of the show and look forward to sharing our joy with the audience!”
