Roz Purcell has plenty of achievements under her belt, from her time as Miss Ireland to her move towards being a sustainable influencer.
But she revealed to VIP Magazine what she was most proud of.
Speaking to the Tipperary woman ahead of the eir VIP Publishing Power of Women, she shared her joy about being able to bring a community of people together with her Hike Life platform.
“The Hike Life is back after COVID and I do that most Sundays. It’s just a free hiking event. I’m back doing Hike Life gear and just in general my content creation,” she explains.
“I guess, COVID really inspired people to get out into the outdoors in general because that’s all we had. People were like, ‘Oh my God! Ireland’s actually incredible.’ We only had 20km so we might as well explore it.
“The Hike Life was active before COVID, I’m really lucky that people love to hike. But I have seen more people, even just benefitting from the page to find hikes in their area. It’s a nice community and I’m so proud that I created it. As someone with a platform the one thing you can do is sharing something that has really helped me.”
She’s a busy woman and she admits: “To be honest, I feel like I’m on a hamster wheel. Coming out of lockdown, everything is back open, so you’re still doing all the stuff you did in lockdown and then going to see people. I’m in a spin. When people ask me what’s going on I realise I have so much!”
“I keep forgetting that!” she laughs.
“I’m still trying to learn about forestry and we’re trying to rewild it. It’s a standard Irish forest with non-native trees, so we want to bring back the real biodiversity that should be there. I am trying to absorb as much information as possible.
“But I feel like with these types of things you have to just hire people who know what they’re doing. I’m really interested in that sort of thing, it might not be the sexiest of things but I love it.”
