Former Irish rugby player Ronan O’Gara has admitted that there was a hugely negative public perception of him during his time on the pitch.
The sports star opened up to the Off The Ball team about his reputation, and said, “The perception of me when I was playing was cranky, narky, arrogant and a bit of a w**ker.”
Since retiring in 2013, he has been doing a lot of commentary work on TV and radio, and seems to have great craic doing it – while slowly dwindling the negative public impression of him.
Earlier this week, Ronan was a special guest during the Off The Ball Roadshow, and the live broadcast took place in the Cork Opera House.
“I essentially get paid to sit on my arse and watch the team. It’s great,” he said.
Ronan admitted that it’s an easy job compared to playing rugby, and the perks are second to none: “You live like a king. You’ve great facilities. You sit down, you’ve runners getting you tea, coffee, purple snacks, yellow snacks, sandwiches and chips.”
Despite sharing his time between France and Ireland at the moment, we don’t think he’ll be giving up this gig anytime soon!
