Robbie Keane played his last game for the Republic of Ireland last Wednesday, and yesterday the team played their first game without the striker.
Just before last night’s game against Serbia it was announced that Robbie Brady would now wear the coveted number 10 jersey that Keane wore.
It proved lucky for the Dubliner as he racked up an impressive 69 goals for our country during the duration of his career.
Ireland’s hero of the Euros Robbie Brady, sent the LA Galaxy player a text after last night’s game, assuring him that he will take care of the jersey, and the reply he got was hilarious.
Speaking to reporters Brady said, “I just sent Robbie a little text and said I’d try not do too much damage to it, and he replied, “‘don’t worry, you only need to score 69 goals’.”
The Baldoyle native also revealed that Robbie congratulated him, and that he feels honoured to wear the iconic jersey.
“He’s happy I have it and congratulated me on it. I’m hoping to go from strength to strength and put in some more good performances for Ireland.
“It’s a massive honour,” he said.
