Red Rock villain Stephen Jones admitted that his family find it hard to watch him play the part of crime gang leader Laser Byrne on the TV3 drama.
The character of Laser has been terrifying viewers over the last number of weeks, murdering Robbie, torturing other gang members, threatening families including The Hennesseys, and doing dodgy deals with Garda Rory.
Despite Laser’s evil acts, Stephen loves playing the role, and admitted that he couldn’t be further from his character. In fact, he hasn’t even been in a fight!
Speaking to the Irish Mirror he said, “Some of my aunties can’t watch some scenes because they don’t want to see me doing the bad things. I get a laugh out of that.
“I’m a bit of a softie to be honest. I’m a fairly laid back kind of guy and generally happy-go-lucky.
“I’m from Tallaght and my mates give me a lot of stick for playing Laser because I’d be the least hard man out of our group of friends or anyone at school.
“They get a laugh out of the fact people watch me on TV and would be terrified of me. I’ve never even been in a fight. The only time I get a bit aggressive is on the football pitch because I’m quite a competitive person. Apart from that I wouldn’t say boo to a fly.”
The 31-year-old also said that viewers can expect Laser to meet his match in the coming weeks, when Patrick Bergin’s character Jim Tierney takes him on and things start to unravel.
“There’s a scene coming up on Monday when I’m acting opposite Patrick and the two characters, who are well able for it, come together.
“There might be a slight jitter from Laser. Up to now he’s a one-track psychopath but these two men know each other and have crossed paths before.
“It all gets revealed in the next couple of weeks,” he said.
