TV3’s soap Red Rock is set to be cancelled.

An announcement made last week said that the show was put on hiatus until next year, but insiders have revealed that it looks to be axed for good.

The initial announcement from last week read: “Good news and bad news RedRockers.

“The good news is that we have a slate of the most epic episodes we’ve ever made ready to go. The bad news is that due to rescheduling you’re going to have to wait ’till 2018 till they air on TV3.

“Red Rock is one of the most ambitious Irish TV shows ever but with that ambition comes risk, meaning currently production of Red Rock is on hold… for now.

“Since we’ve launched Red Rock has proved to be a show that defies the odds. A show that went on to become this country’s most successful TV export.

It continued: “We’ve earned fans in the UK, the US, Canada and, or course, the most dedicated homegrown fan-base right here in Ireland. With a year of programmes ahead of us there’s plenty of life in us yet.

“We’ve got more stories we want to tell you from this Dublin seaside town and we’re determined to keep telling them. Rock on.”

Despite the somewhat optimistic statement, sources have said that the show is finished.

“Nobody thinks it’s coming back. The writers and actors are going their separate ways. The sets are being taken down. It’s over,” an insider told the Irish Sun.

It is also being reported that props and costumes are being sold off.

The show began in 2015 and aired for three seasons, with employees of the show expected that it would be renewed for a fourth season this year.

TV3 is set for a number of changes for their new schedule this season, it announced the cancellation of Celebrity Master Chef as well as the change in the Xpose Schedule.
