RTE broadcaster Ray D’Arcy has revealed that he finds the pressure of social media to be too much, and he won’t be giving in to those pressures anytime soon.
The Saturday Night Show presenter feels that having a Twitter account would do nothing for his life, and said that if it were around when he started out on radio then his Today FM show never would have gotten off the ground.
He feels that social media causes intense scrutiny, and is thankful that he was able to build up a following without feeling the wrath of social media.
Speaking to the Irish Sun Ray said, “I’m not on Twitter, and I don’t go reading it either. I don’t think it will enhance my life in any shape or form. I’m never going to go on it.
“Twitter is like prog rock. It came along at a time when it didn’t suit my life. I was too young for prog rock. Twitter is the same for me now.
“When I started on Today FM, Twitter didn’t exist and people weren’t so forensically going through everything that happened in the media. That helped, as we did loads of rubbish radio trying to find out what people wanted.
“For five days a week, three hours a day, nobody was taking us to task. Nobody expected anything of us, so we were able to build that show into a success. It’s much more difficult for Anton today but I wish him every success,” he said.
