Users of Liz Earle ‘Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser’ should be vigilant, as a batch of the popular face wash has been recalled.
Roughly 15,000 tubes of the cleanser were tested and high levels of Enterobacter gergoviae bacteria were found. This strain of bacteria has been known to cause chest and urinary tract infections, and has in some cases been resistant to antibiotics.
A spokesperson for the brand has assured users that the contaminated batch was sold via the Liz Earle website, and that those individuals that purchased the cleanser have been notified, and were offered a full refund.
Speaking to The Huffington Post the spokesperson said, “No product outside of this batch was affected.
“The product recall took place in early October and Liz Earle Beauty Co has already communicated with every consumer that could have been affected.”
