Paul Mescal hopes Gladiator and Wicked can replicate Barbenheimer hype

Last summer was all about Barbenheimer.

Simply because two of the biggest films of the year dropped on the same day – Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Now it looks like that hype could be replicated this winter.

Both Gladiator 2 and Wicked will hit the cinemas on November 22nd in the States.

And now Paul Mescal has revealed that he is hoping to replicate the success of Barbenheimer.

“Wickdiator doesn’t really roll off the tongue, does it? I think my preference would probably be Glicked,” Paul told Entertainment Weekly.

“If it has a similar effect to what it did for Barbie and Oppenheimer, it would be amazing cause I think the films couldn’t be more polar opposites, and it worked in that context previously.”

Paul added: “So, fingers crossed, people come out and see both films on opening weekend.”

While Gladiator and Wicked may open the same day in the States, it looks like we won’t be seeing the same thing happen here in Ireland.

The Gladiator sequel is opening on November 15th on our shores while Wicked will hit cinemas on the 22nd.

But we’re sure the hype around the two films will continue the excitement of Wickdiator or Glicked – whichever you prefer!
