Pat Kenny says Kieran Cuddihy could step into Late Late role

Pat Kenny has backed Kieran Cuddihy for a future on The Late Late Show stage.

The former Newstalk presenter has moved to RTÉ Radio 1 to take over Liveline following Joe Duffy’s retirement earlier this year.

The beloved radio show had to search high and low for the perfect replacement.

Earlier this month, Kieran was announced as the new host.

Now Pat Kenny, who hosts his own show on Newstalk has shared that he believes that Kieran could follow in his footsteps as host of The Late Late Show.

“I would imagine that’s part of the reason why he probably left, “ he told the Irish Independent.

“He has got television under his belt now. He’s done Virgin Media, he’s got television experience. He’s obviously got lots of radio experience.

“I presume that [The Late Late] was factored into his thinking. I’m sure it’s one of his main goals and if you’re not aspiring for that [The Late Late] you would be limiting yourself.”

Patrick Kielty stepped into the role of Late Late host following Ryan Tubridy’s departure in 2023. His contract ends next year, however, it is unclear whether RTÉ will extend his contract.

RTÉ confirmed that Kieran would be joining Radio 1 as Liveline’s new host saying: “As Liveline celebrates 40 years on air, Kieran Cuddihy will take the helm each day from 1.45 pm, getting to the heart of the discussions that truly matter to the people of Ireland.”
