Thousand took to the streets of Finglas today, as they said goodbye to the late Christy Dignam.
The Aslan singer tragically passed away on Tuesday after a decade long battle with a rare health condition. Fans gathered in his native Finglas for his funeral this morning, with thousands in attendance.
During the procession, their was a video tribute to the Dubliner, with Aslan’s hit This Is playing in the background. There was a particularly emotional moment when the crowds began to sing along with the song in honour of Christy.

His daughter, Kiera Dignam confirmed the sad news on social media today.
“On behalf of my family, it is with a broken heart that we convey the news of my father’s passing, Christy Dignam,” she wrote.
“Dad peacefully left us where he wanted to, at home today 4pm Tuesday, June 13th 2023, after a courageously long-fought battle, surrounded by his family.
“We ask that you honour our family’s need for privacy during this immensely painful period. Let us all hold him in our hearts and cherish the remarkable life of a talented singer, great storyteller and amazing person.”
“We thank you so much for your love and support shown to us. Kathryn, Kiera, Darren, Cian, Ava, Jake and our extended family x.”
The Aslan frontman was diagnosed with amyloidosis, a rare blood disorder, in 2013.
He was admitted to Beaumont Hospital in July of 2022 where he spent six months in the care of the haematology and cardiac care team.
He returned home this year and had been receiving palliative care since January.
