Despite making “good progress” following his heart attack last Tuesday, Gay Byrne has revealed he’s due to go back to hospital in the coming days.

The presenter was released from St Vincent’s hospital last week, but only if he agreed to return for further tests.

The 81-year -old spoke to the Herald, and said, “I will be going back into hospital later this week. That was the condition of me getting out.”

He also insisted, “I am busy recuperating and am being well looked after.”

Since the news of his sudden heart attack broke, a number of his colleagues and close friends have been sharing their well wishes.

Pat Kenny said, “I got a bit of a shock when I heard the news. He is a remarkable guy and he’s in good health generally. All his walking and cycling will stand to him.”

While Miriam O’Callaghan also shared a message of support, saying, “I am absolutely overjoyed to hear that Gay is making a great recovery and my thoughts right now are just with Gay and Kathleen and the whole family at this difficult time.”
