Mike Denver has opened up about his wife, Liz’s “tough” birth in March of this year. The Irish county singer was speaking to Marty Morrissey for his new RTE show Marty in the Shed.
Their little girl Mia was born five weeks premature and the delivery was even more difficult as due to Covid-19 restrictions he was unable to be in the delivery room with his wife until the very end.
“And I wasn’t allowed in for the birth anyway which was a tough time I suppose it is tough on a lot of people.”
“I got there when she was born I was there a few minutes after that so it was a wonderful time.”
The star, from Galway is enjoying all the time he’s spending at home with Mia and his wife, which he normally wouldn’t have. Given that gigs are cancelled and venues closed he has been able to spend lots of time with his family.
“There’s no feeling like it when you’re holding her minding her. It was a great experience. She’s everything we could want.”
Mike also shared that it has been difficult as Mia has not yet met her grandparents despite the fact that his parents live “less than a mile away.” Mike’s mother has been driving down everyday and “and looks in through the window and smiles and takes out the camera and takes a few photos.”
“We’re really looking forward to the days the mams and dads and hold her in their arms and just giver her the kisses and cuddles she deserves.
“My mam and dad live less than a mile from where I am here so my mam comes down every day.
Hopefully they’ll all get to spend some quality time together soon.
