Maura Derrane has revealed that her son has very expensive taste indeed – one-year-old Cal prefers lobster over Liga.
The RTE presenter took her toddler to her hometown of Inismore in The Aran Islands and admitted that he has developed a taste for seafood.
While it usually can be difficult to get kids to try out new and different foods, it’s not something that Maura has to worry about.
“One of my neighbours, who’s a fisherman, gave us a fresh lobster that he caught, so I decided to see if Cal would take it and he did…he loved it!”, she said, before humorously adding, “he’s got expensive taste”.
The Galway native was speaking to The RTE Guide about the first 1,000 days campaign that she is currently fronting, which highlights the importance of nutrition for children from conception to two years old.
Now the 45-year-old mum of one can use her own son as a perfect example of what a good and varied diet can do for young children.
The radio host also gushed about how Cal is “thriving” in the countryside saying, “his development has been unreal since we’ve been here.”
“I forget sometimes when you’re in the city just how limited we are with space and I had forgotten the freedom you have as a child over here”, she said.
