Martin King has opened up about the recent presenter shake-up at Virgin Media. When the broadcaster unveiled their new season scheduling one of the main talking points was the changing around of some well known faces.
Martin, who has presented the Six O’Clock show for four years with Muireann O’Connell said goodbye to his co-host as she moved to Ireland AM instead. Karen Koster, who had been hosting Ireland AM alongside Tommy Bowe has now joined Martin as his new co-host.
Speaking to RSVP Live about the switch up he said; “It was a surprise when I was told that they were shaking things up and making a couple of changes here and there…”
However he had nothing but praise for both presenters in their new roles; “Muireann has been absolutely brilliant so far on Ireland AM and Karen has been equally amazing on the Six O’Clock Show.”
“Karen and I, we’ve been working in TV3, and in the last few years Virgin Media, for a lot of years. We were just saying the other day that between us we have about 40 years of television experience, and we kind of orbited each other and now here we are working together.”
“Of course I miss Muireann, just as I’m sure Karen misses having Tommy beside her as well,” he added.
It’s a big change for both the presenters and the viewers, but combined with their brand new sustainable set, it is key to keep things fresh; “This is the nature of television, changes are made, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the good or not so good.”
Continuing he added; “The changes they’ve made in Virgin Media are good and there were reasons for it. We’re all professional broadcasters and I’m looking forward to working with Karen.”
