Marco Pierre White shares the perfect way to cook restaurant style steak at home

Marco Pierre White

The Restaurant is back with a brand new slew of celebrity hopefuls trying to impress the unflappable Marco Pierre White.

But if you’re not able to be wined and dined, Marco was on hand to give VIP Magazine his tips on how to create a restaurant perfect steak.

Speaking to us at his own restaurant in Donnybrook where Virgin Media’s The Restaurant is filmed, he revealed his top tips.

He reveals that the only way to eat a steak (in his opinion) is medium rare, leaning across the table he asks: “Do you know how to cook the perfect medium rare steak without touching it?”

When I shake my head he begins to divulge his secrets.

“You need a good pan, first. The best on is a grill pan, get a grill pan for home with the lines on it,” he explains.

“Get it hotter than you want it, the reason why you have to get it hotter than you want it is because if you put very large rib eye steaks on it, the loss of heat is enormous.”

He adds “don’t panic” if you think your pan is too hot, that’s exactly what you want!

He continues: “So get your steaks on it, get your nice lines on it and then flip it over. Give it about a minute then turn it off. Let it cook in the residual heat.”

So how do you know it’s done?

“When you start to see the blood pierce the surface then it’s perfectly medium rare. So you don’t have to start touching it and cutting into it.”

And there you go!
