Mairead Ronan has opened up about her shock departure from Today FM, after 15 years with the station.
Last week the broadcaster announced that she was changing things up in her career, wanting to do more tv work, and focus on her beauty business.
Taking to social media, Mairead said: “After 15 incredible years with Today FM I’ve decided to jog on, and not just for a 5k.
“I’m so lucky to have had 12 exceptional but exhausting years with the Ray D’Arcy Show and then had the pleasure of producing the brilliant Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show since 2014.
“But with more television work and my Faro brushes, I’ve decided to take a large leap and try new things.
“Love and kisses to everyone in Today FM and all who listen. #Scared #Excited.”
However, leaving the station was not a decision she made lightly, and she’s been thinking about it since the beginning of the year.
“I’ve been agonising over the decision since the start of the year,” she told The Herald.
“We were away just after Christmas, myself and Louis, and it’s always the thing when you go away and you don’t have to put on a wash every hour and go to the supermarket every day.
“I finally had this bit of brain space and I was thinking, ‘I’ve never taken that leap from Today FM’. I hadn’t even finished college when I started and I loved it for so long. It was like another sibling or something.
“I’m very lucky that I had a job like that for so long, but I think I need to do new things and work in other places.
“So I made the decision, and then I went back and forth and kept changing my mind for about two months.
“Then I went to the Westbury about a month ago and had a meeting with Ian and Mario Rosenstock and told them.
“It was very emotional,” she added. “I was crying my eyes out and the boys were not comfortable with that at all.”
Although she left the station on good terms, the seasoned broadcaster admits she won’t miss all of her work colleagues.
“Everyone has their groups. Not everyone in there loved me and I didn’t love everyone. That’s the way of the working world.” she said.
