Maia Dunphy has opened up about her empowering girl-gang with Lucy Kennedy.

The Irish presenter, who welcomed her first son to the world in 2015, has revealed that despite having to plan a get-together with her friends, sometimes “four months” in advance, it’s always worth the wait.

Speaking exclusively to VIP Magazine, Maia said, “As someone who is a new-mum, well he’s 18 months now, I’m very time poor. I love the idea of getting the gang together.

“Sometimes it’s easy to let it go, but every time I go and see people, I feel better for it. People often say make time for yourself, but I spend a lot of time on my own, so if I have time, I like to spend it with someone else.”

Maia, who splits her time between Dublin and London, admitted that it’s incredibly helpful to have friends on-hand who have been through similar situations in life.

Fellow presenter and girl-gang member Lucy Kennedy also just welcomed a baby girl, and the pair lean on each for support quite frequently.

“No matter how close you are to your partner or your husband, you need people who have gone through the same thing. Women are a great support to other women.

“I met Lucy’s baby and she’s gorgeous! Lucy is in my little girl gang and we go away every few months. She’s fabulous. Lucy doesn’t pull any punches. She will tell you exactly, maybe in too much detail, just how things are,” says Maia.

“I have two or three Whatsapp groups and it’s great. If you haven’t seen someone in a couple of days and they beep on your phone, it makes you feel okay and that you’re not alone.”

The 40-year-old went on to say, “The kind of support that I’ve had over the past few years from female friends has been so valuable.

“Sometimes’s it’s portrayed that women are bitchy and like to drag women down, I’ve never noticed that.

“I’m trying to think and over my life, of who’s made me feel worse when I feel bad, nine times out of ten it’s probably a man who has made me feel that way rather than a woman.I think women are much nicer to women than some people would have us believe.”

Maia Dunphy proudly supports Diet Coke’s ‘Get The Gang Back Together’ campaign.
