Swoon – lucky actress Saoirse Ronan can add Ryan Gosling to her list of admirers, as he gushed yesterday about how she is one of his “favourite people”.
The Brooklyn actress was presented with the New Hollywood Award for her role in Brooklyn by the hunky A-lister last night at The Hollywood Film Awards, and he made sure to let everyone know how fond he is of the 21-year-old. Ryan previously directed Saoirse in his movie ‘Lost River’ and was clearly impressed by her talent.

And the Notebook star made sure to teach the rest of his Hollywood pals the correct way to pronounce her Irish name – which makes us love him even more!
“There was a little controversy in giving her this award and no it wasn’t how to pronounce her name, although since we’re all here, I thought we could just go over it,” he said.
“It’s not Say-or-see or Seer-say or Sor-cery, but it probably should be … it’s Ser-sha like inertia.”
The top actor also called the young Co. Carlow native as “not only one of my favourite actresses”, but also “one of my favourite people”. He complimented her “impressive body of work”, saying: “She’s barely 21, she’s already done close to that many films.”
“Her performance in her new film, Brooklyn, is so powerful and so beautiful, she just had to be awarded with something.”
Saoirse was joined at the awards, held yesterday at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, by heavyweights Robert De Niro, Carey Mulligan and Will Smith.
