Ahead of the awards this Sunday, Liam Cunningham has spoken out praising Oscar hopeful Ruth Negga.
The Game of Thrones star has known the Love/Hate actress for over 20 years and he couldn’t be happier that she’s been nominated in the Best Actress category for her portrayal of Mildred Loving in Loving.
He believes her recent nod is a long time in the making, and he’s delighted all her hard work has paid off.
“Ruth is the most gorgeous, easy-going, decent person ever.” he told Evoke.ie.
“I saw her at the Golden Globes and went over to give her a hug. She’s just brilliant and she’s been at it a long time. She’s done her theatre and paid her dues and I think the highest compliment I can pay Ruth is that she’s not a movie star, she’s an actor.
“She’s a brilliant ambassador for [Ireland] and a brilliant ambassador for diversity. She’s very clever and worked her way up slowly. Ruth is the real deal and hasn’t had it all thrown at her.
“It’s very cool [she got nominated] and I’d the biggest smile on my face when I heard she got nominated. She’s very deserving of it.”
